A dynamic and well rounded speech pathology contractor is required to work 4 days per week in a 24 month contract at Viva speech pathology with the possibility of further extension. The position exists across two private speech pathology clinics (Tuart Hill and Joondalup).  Candidates looking for 2 days of work per week are encouraged to also apply.

Planning is underway for the contractor/s to commence in August 2014.

The successful candidate will join a friendly, organised and enthusiastic team of 4 therapists and 3 receptionists.

1) Confidence to assess and treat paediatric difficulties in the following areas;
          *Stuttering
          *Early language to 6 years
          *Speech difficulties including CAS
          *Literacy and school aged language skills up to the ages of 10 years
2) An ability to work effectively in a team
3) Good interpersonal skills
4) Well developed time management and organisational skills
5) A highly motivated person who has the ability to work independently
6) An ability to reflect on own needs for mentoring and professional development and to plan to meet these needs on an ongoing basis
7) Experience and ability to problem solve well when dealing with complex clinical situations
8) Experience and knowledge to effectively manage paediatric behavioural difficulties when they impact on speech pathology intervention or to direct parents to appropriate services
9) Knowledge of the roles of other health professionals and the education system so that speech pathology intervention can be integrated/ considered in the context of what is offered to the child.

DESIRABLE  (Please note applicants without these skills will still be considered)
1) Experience working at a speech pathology private practice or student experience in this setting
2) Skills
          *Literacy and school aged language skills up to the ages of 12 years
          *An interest / skills in working with teenagers and adult with developmental speech and
            language difficulties
          *An interest/ skills in the areas of treating voice problems
          *An interest/ skills in the areas of treating stuttering difficulties experienced by teenagers
            and adults
          *Experience in diagnosing and or treating children with Autism and disabilities
          *Well developed presentation skills (talks to schools/ day cares)

My name is Feline van Brakel, I am a Dutch speech pathologist looking for part-time work.

Two years ago I moved to Australia with my English husband and two children. We are currently living in Carine. 

My Overseas Qualifications have just been recognised by SPA and I'm now eligible for SPA membership. 

As for work experience...
After graduating, I worked in various places. I have worked in a private practice first, before backpacking through Australia for a year. After that I worked in a deaf school for 5 years and my last job was in an international school where I worked for another 5 years. Due to my work experience in the international school, I am very confident in working in English.
I have mostly worked with children with speech and language and some literacy difficulties in school settings, which enabled me to be a close part of the school team. In the private practice I have also worked with adult voice patients. I have a detailed CV available for a complete picture.

Skillbuilders was established in 1995, providing comprehensive, multi-disciplinary therapy services for children ever since. Our client group is diverse, including children aged 0-18 years presenting with the full range of developmental concerns that you may expect to see in community practice. We are registered service providers for both the Autism and Better Start programmes. We see children for therapy at our centre in Leeming (10 minutes south of the Perth CBD), as well as at Day Care Centres, schools and at home. Therapy is provided in both individual sessions and small group formats in collaboration with other team members.

An opportunity is available to join our friendly team and to develop and extend the Speech Pathology role within the team. We would envisage the role initially being 2 days per week, however there is excellent potential to develop this further. Days and hours are flexible. Ongoing mentoring and support is available.

To be considered for this role it is essential that you have:

* Degree in Speech Pathology (eg: B.AppSc. Human Communication)
* Membership eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia and Private Speech Pathologists Association of WA
* Relevant post-graduate experience
* High level of written and oral communication skills
